Richard Wilmes, Partner & Head of Secondaries

Richard, how has the secondaries market changed over the past 15 years?

In the last decade and a half, secondaries have undergone an enormous transformation from a niche market to an established segment with flexible liquidity solutions. We have seen sharp growth in relation to market volume and our Secondaries team today is larger than our entire Investment team was 15 years ago – which is another sign of the dynamic growth of this market segment.

What has been the most formative experience in your career?

When I arrived at Golding, the decision-making committees were influenced to a significant extent by our activities in the Credit business. Back then, this area accounted for the majority of the business. Accordingly, risk aversion formed the core of our investment philosophy right from the very beginning and to this day it shapes our highly conservative approach, also for the Secondaries business.

What do you enjoy most about working at Golding?

I really value the creative freedom as part of a culture that promotes innovative spirit and entrepreneurial thinking. I would particularly like to highlight the fantastic team spirit and collaboration within our exceptional group.

Richard, congratulations on 15 years with Golding!
