Investing and ESG
Sustainability as a success strategy.
I am convinced that investments based on sustainability will be the long-term winners.

ESG is not an add-on. It is take-off.
We see ESG as the starting point for successful long-term investments. Investments that reflect ESG criteria have several advantages for our investors: improved risk management, new added-value potential and the prospect of higher risk-adjusted returns over the long term.
ESG enables our investors to invest in line with their entrepreneurial and personal values.

Methodical success: ESG analysis in five categories
Values · Organisation · Due Diligence · Ownership · Reporting
Benchmarking against ESG criteria and sustainability targets is methodically hardwired into our entire investment process, and environmental, social and governance considerations are systematically integrated into all decision-making processes for all asset classes. Long-term, responsible business dealings are part of how we see ourselves as entrepreneurs. We have defined our commitment to responsible investment in our group policy.
In addition to publicly available information and key ESG indicators, we have developed a detailed questionnaire that we use to analyse potential investments for their ESG values, how ESG is integrated into their organisation and due diligence process, their integration of ESG criteria during their ownership phase and in their reporting. Since introducing our ESG analysis we have assessed and rated over 90 portfolio fund managers.
In the current UN PRI Assessment Report 2023, Golding received the top rating of 5 stars in all the asset classes private equity, private credit (fixed income) and infrastructure. Golding was also given 5 stars in the category »Confidence Building Measures« and 4 stars in the category »Policy Governance and Strategy«.
Sustainability Related Disclosures
We take a firm stand: if no ESG information is available or the ESG performance does not meet our standards, we reserve the right to reject an investment.

Re-Rating: Performance check for investments.
We see sustainable investing and ESG as a process and expect to see continuous progress from our partners. We repeat the ESG assessment of our current investments at regular intervals to find out how they are evolving. In 2022 we included the four pillars of the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) in our ESG assessments. This enables us to assess how climate risks and opportunities are addressed at the company and investment level.
The better the information, the more precise the investment rating. We campaign for standards in ESG reporting. We are a member of the ESG Data Convergence Initiative, in which over 325 general and limited partners agree on ESG reporting standards for portfolio companies, and are active in the Invest Europe ESG Reporting Guidelines Working Group, which promotes the standardised reporting of key ESG indicators by investments.
